Today is the start of Pride Month. Throughout June we come together and celebrate the LGBT community in different ways. We recognise the influence LGBT people have had around the world.
Why June though? Well this dates back to 1969 where we see the first LGBT rights movement in Manhattan. It took place at the Stonewall Inn in the Gay village of Greenwich.
As well as it being a time of celebration it’s also an opportunity to peaceful protest and raise political awareness of issues facing the LGBT community. Pride month is very important because is marks the start of a huge change within the LGBT+ community. Although attitudes and injustice still remains around us, we have come far since the riots of 1969. We continue to raise awareness, improve the attitudes of society and encourage inclusiveness. #Pride2020
